I lived on an island off the coast of Maine. The landscape was beautiful, compelling, and desolate. With temperatures 20-30 below, the land became quiet and the bays froze over. The sun was rarely visible in winter. With the grasslands frozen in motion, one rare sunrise I caught a glimpse of a ray of sun rising over the barren landscape, changing the hue from blue to yellow. In a moment, it was gone.
